 Coolness: 92410 | Very few people start listening to rave music straight from the womb, so almost all ravers were at one point into another kind of music whether it be punk, metal, hip hop, or *gasp* even top 40!
So long as you come to a rave to spread good vibes n respect, noone should give a shit whether your sporting candy bracelets up to your shoulders, a mowhawk and spiked jacket, or just plain normal clothes. Frankly, i'm not really worried about punks being aggresive/destructive at a rave cuz its obvious that doing so is not going to get you any respect or win you any friends, while at a punk show its another story because in some ways that kind of behaviour is encouraged. |

I can vouch for the fact that I’ve seen punks in the rave scene for quite some time, more specifically, I think the first time I saw punks at rave was back in 96, and they were the friendly kind of punks... And for those of you who didn’t know, punks and electronic music share cultural roots, in fact punk has influenced a lot of music and actually was friends with rap and hip hop when it was born...
As for violence being related to stereotypical/ a-typical dress codes, that’s ridiculous, completely biased and ignorant, but if postulating nonsensical rhetoric as such makes you feel superior in some stupid way, then congrats on the deluded discourse... UFot-yawnin @ the kidz |

I personally find that they share common ground in that they both recognize the mainstream and establishment as a shitty system where people are without the ability of actually having freedom, value or happiness. However, the reaction or response to this constatation is very different in the two cases: punk is about revolt and destruction. I think the relationship to music is utterly different between punks and ravers: punks use aggressive music for their aggressivity, and ravers use energetic but very un-emotional music to feel energized... or... "Live their energy", but I don't see any connection between raving and aggressivity. I think if you have aggressivity you don't belong in the rave scene. Or at least you just don't bring it with you. UFot-yawnin @ the kidz Well, I am sure you do know that "punk" originally does not define a dress style, but a whole "mentality" if we can call it that. More like a knee-jerk reflex of destructive retaliation. "Anarchy" being the keyword, that is tearing down the whole organizational structure of society, in the view that we are better off without it. So "friendly punks" would be a bit weird since punk is fundamentally a culture of violence. But of course there are people who dress "punk" especially nowadays it is more a fashion statement than anything else. Still wanting to dress completely run-down, fucked up and destroyed does mean something about someone, same as someone who would dress pretentiously or... candy for that matter. |

Ravers are more preppy then punks those dayz ,maybe that's why they don't get along well anymore:P |

But, seriously, there are some of us around, more before, but some of the younger punx are around too these days...I drag a couple o' buddies of mine to my parties [ sometimes...Us ] the easy musical link is Atari Teenage Riot, and most hardcore techno/speedcore therafter... True, Ufot, that violence is not related directly to style or dress (unless you so happen to be in the army wearing camo uniforms, then there's a good chance you'll cross some violence)...Anyway, I've never seen punks and ravers not getting along at a party. Speaking of violence, Screwhead, I know you'd want a mosh pit during you'r own set, but did you catch the mosh pit during Venetian Snares last year? It was special ;) Anyway, punks are the walkin' dead, and ravers are the living dead ;) (my half a cent) |

These 4 years of raving were useless. ;) Sorry if it shocks you guyz, but I do have lots of agressivity inside me. Tons of it. Stress, agressivity, fear, anxiety... Not cool stuffs. Raving helps me get it out. I sublimate it into a dance, rather than going on a killing spree. Fun n'ah? I think it might be the case with punks too. I don't think all punks are trouble makers. The few I've met were quite nice in fact. |

I agree that this should make sense, but for some reason the cops have a very special way of leaving punk shows alone. Take the L.C.B show at centre fractale, three fights broke out, windows were broken, people were shootin' up and fucking in the washrooms...not one cop showed up. Three days later I went to a rave, again at centre fractale...not a single fight...sure lots of drugs too, but done more discretely....and [ tadam...com ] 2 am the cops shut it down...having gone to both events I found this completely confusing, and no one else seems to get it either...anyway for some reason or another cops don't bust down shows in the punk scene (unless you happen to be at Leftover Crack's show :p). So in theory the punk scene IS more deserving of a police crackdown, but the reality is that we don't get it. |

quand y'arrive à passer les douanes... fais 2 fois faut je me fasse rembourser mes tickets, fais 2 fois que je suis déçue de passer à côté du show de ma vie!! Mais pour revenir au topic, moi depuis que je rave, j'y est toujours vu des punks. Pas en majoriter mais ils y étaient! Personnellement le monde était surpris, plus jeune, quand je leur disais que je ravais! "han toi tu rave? Pourtant t'es punk, je comprend pas ce que tu fais là?" qu'est-ce que je faisais là? Je passais une bonne soirée entre ami, j'expérimentais! Et je pense que ça, peut importe les valeur que t'as ou quel "type" de personne tu es, c'est le plus important et c'est ce qui différencie les rave de toutes les autres scène! |
