Honestly, this is a really good idea, I think people are getting tired of the whole "barbie" thing. This kind of image makes a company seem closer to the actual needs of it's customer.

Weird. It's still an ad. They still want you to buy their soap. Wasn't the whole deal with Dove that it makes your skin super soft and that you smell nice, and isn't it sort of scented for women? The new advertising is all about trying to align with their critics and make the company seem more benign. It's like those Shell ads where they try to make it look like Shell are environmentalists and sensitive to global regional politics with cinematic storylines in their ads. But that doesn't change the fact that they have seriously fucked up in the past and were strong supporters of Botha's South Africa, apartheid and all.

Never trust big business. It's all a ruse.

Just saying that I'm not talking about the actual company, I don't know about their policy or history. I'm talking about the publicity, wich is very well done.

Nothing new or different. Sure it's a positive message but it's meant to make you sympathise with the company and make you think they're the good guys which is the only reason they put any money or time into it. Besides even warning against their own evils isn't gonna change their ability to get across to young girls, if anything it'll probably just make them more recerptiove to dove's marketing because they're the 'good guys who care about little girl's self image.' I'm only surprised to see a thread about it.
I'm feeling bored right now..

You guys honestly think that Dove made a publicity just to get closer to customers? Maybe I'm the naive person here (which might quite possibly be the case)... but maybe some of you are acting a little paranoid.

Luke, I don't know how you manage to compare an blood thirsty industry such as oil refining to a hygiene product such as soap. I agree that it would look like a similar tactic but the fact remains that I've never heard of a soap spill happening on the coasts of a beach anywhere. In other words, the desired outcome of both companies for using the "same" media tactic would be very different and can't even be compared on the same scale.

Anyways, I would also be very surprised if Dove would volunteraly make enemies within the the $20 billion US cosmetics industry, the the $300 million US cosmetic surgery industry, the $1.6 billion US cosmetic surgery product industry, the $35 billion US weight-loss product industry, and the $7 billion US pornography industry.

I don't see why Dove would ever want to disarm the above industry by giving their advertising agencies' tricks away (see "are you media smart?" activity)

Also, their website activities contain a lot of "think green" influence which makes me believe Dove is only the underdog here who actually deserves to be heard for once.

Food for thought.

They aren't giving their tricks away, they're just diverting attention from the tricks they're actually using on you right now by revealing other tricks to you in order to make you believe that they aren't using any on you right now. Oldest trick in the book.

Heheh you could be right and I may be paranoid but nothign will sell me to this. I'm sure there are more environmentally friendly soap companies than Dove, it's not going to make me buy their products. It will sell them a lot of products though, guaranteed.

Trust no one, they probably support a secret governmental agency that is trying to frame you for murder in the name of profit, entertainment and diversion from an even more diabolical scheme to take over the world and breed a new destructive AI that will create a virus that spreads through humanity making them Zombies and slaves for the greater cause of making a better waffle iron: one that will not burn your waffles.

yeah the ads is well done any doubt here.. but the only real honest intention they have is: MAKING MONEY. they don't want to be nice or really give confidence to little girl..no..THEY WANT YOUR FUCKING MONEY...that's all...as any other company..

by the way... anybody here know who owns DOVE??? -----> UNILEVER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and very amusing... guest WICH BRANDS UNILEVER ALSO OWN:------> BEST FOODS(fucking awesome food full of non-organics shit..), POND(beauty cream...), BEN AND JERRY and BREYERS (....mmm fatty ice cream for fatty people..the original maker even die from having eating too much haha!in fact unilever is the biggest ice cream maker in the world..), SLIM FAST (...because after all that yummie ice cream you need to loose the weight drinking awfull milkshake..oh!so healty!!), RAGU (tomatoe sauce non-organics) ect ect ect...

ALSO unilever have been often criticised for testing on animals, for environmental pollution and also child labor....

unilever deal with other company who have deny worker's rights and union's rights...

OH!!! and that's so funny---> few years ago the indian branch of unilever, Hindustan Unilever***was forced to withdraw television advertisements for its women's skin-lightening cream, Fair and Lovely. Advertisements depicted depressed, dark-skinned women, who had been ignored by employers and men, suddenly finding new boyfriends and glamorous careers after the cream had lightened their skin.***

so yeah i think that some people might be little naive here.

Hmm... slap in dah face. Thanks. I guess I forgot to do the most basic of all things which is to dig further into Dove's owners.

I suppose I was overly hyped about seeing such a positive message being thrown to the masses. I don't usually get sucked into buying products due to advertising but unfortunately I forget that most people wouldn't think that way and would actually end up buying more of Dove's products.

I've heard about that book before... maybe I'll pick it up at the library soon.

it's very good.. it's a canadian writer...

and yeah nowadays every major company is grouped and owned by a multi-national corporation.. and it's def. very popular these years to transmit "value" to a company..

my parents are working for union central so real young i was aware of all that crap..i even remember my father bringing home from work a huge poster with all the major multi-national sous-group..

just take a look at what's procter & Gamble, Nestlé, Kraft Foods, Mars Incorporated owns!!! it's pretty insane!!! HELLO BIG BROTHER!!!

also when you take a look at that it's easy after to comfirm that 51% of the global resources are owning by 200 individuals..

how sad when you think that we are 6.7 billion on this miserable planet :(.

ps: don't tell me i'm paranoid.please. :)
