| I think people who spend alot of time communicating on the internet develop a second personality, that only lives on the internet. And they can be one person in real life and a completely different person on the internet, and act and do things while under the influence of the internet that their real-life personality wouldn't even consider. |

From many years of online communication I can only assume that some people play a different role online because the computer gives them a pseudo-reality where nothing is physically taking place hence (according to their mentality) consequences need not apply. Since you neither see or a hear another person when communicating via text the conversation itself has lacks a sense of emotion often resulting in misinterpretation by one or more parties involved. Without that feeling of realism, without meaning, people feel free to let loose and be that which they feel they cannot be in person (real life that is). Consequently, text is usually more descriptive or exaggerated. Perhaps the internet allows people to express themselves easier than usual because they know that their audience will be unbias and judge what they have to say purely based on what is written in text as opposed to superficialities and physical mannerisms which are always present in any face-to-face conversation. |
