whatever happen to the Fantasia Festival?
why is it held at the Concordia Hall Theatre? i was there to see Suicide Club (1 or 2 year ago), a japanese gore film, but the seat made it a most uncomforting experience. I like it better when it was held at Imperial. does anyone even go to the Fant-Asia festival? [ www.fantasiafestival.com ] |

Yeah it was pretty fucked up. I recently watched Dark Water and was really dissapointed (Again).
It starts off fucking cool! It's got some pretty creepy moments, I love how it's filmed, but the story just falls appart. The last 10 minutes of the movie just seemed like "No one is going to understand what just happened, so let's throw in a scene 10 years into the future full of plot holes to try and explain what happened to the dumb audience" (And it's not like it was a great ending to begin with, this is pretty much the american Ring 2 with slight diffrences) So far it's been pretty hit or miss with asian horror I find, they either nail it perfectly (JuOn: The Grudge and The Curse) or fail miserably and turn a horror movie into a feel-good family movie (The Eye) |

[ www.fantasiafestival.com ] imperial went bankrupt. the fantasia fest is still organised by the same people, it has grown much bigger over the last couple of years but the films are worse and worse. |

yeah, i went to see "Live Freaky, Die Freaky" the charles manson claymation.. i couldn't wait to leave, mostly because it felt like my chair was broken and my seat lowered more than it's supposed to-
the movie was fun, but that guy is no claymation/stopmotion master. Charlie's voice was really annoying too, done by the greenday singer.. he sounded like a bad Don King impression. |

Yeah.. survive style is a great movie- I downloaded it several months ago.. same with Izo, Three Extremes, Oldboy and a few others that have only played here within the past month or two- why must we wait so long to see good foreign films.. we're always 1-3 years behind. and even then, any mainstream theatre won't play them because the theatres are american owned and foreign movies aren't advertised here. It's all about the tight BitTorrent cult film communities!! |
