Ok, so it's not risk, but I'm gonna have a copy of ZOMBIES!!! at my disposal for a couple of days.
For anyone who don't know: In 2001 Journeyman Press released a kickass little board game called Zombies!!!. JP immediately sold the rights to the game to Twilight Creations, Inc., who has continued to expand on the product since. Zombies!!! is a board game of survival horror. The town is overrun with zombies, and there is only one ticket to safety. A helicopter sits somewhere in town and it only has space enough for one player. All the players have a human pawn each. During their turn they control both their human pawn and a random number of zombie pieces that they can use to sic on the competition. The game board is created randomly as the game progresses. At the start of a player's turn he/she draws a game tile and turns it over, revealing it. Then the player attaches it to the existing gameboard wherever they can fit it. This can cause players to suddenly find the road they have been running down is actually a dead end....and there is a horde of undead filling the way they just ran down. These factors combined with cards you can play on other players lends a fun cutthroat element to the game. The game rules are very simple yet fun. The rules are a quick read and very easy to explain to new players. The rules are also the most balanced I have seen for a zombie board game (and I've played most of them). Most games either have the balance off or eliminate players from the game as it progresses. This means players possibly being entirely eliminated within minutes, then having to hang out and watch the remaining players continue. Zombies!!! keeps all players active in the game by allowing them to start all new human characters back at start. Some players paint the plastic zombies for further fun. The zombies are made from glow-in-the-dark plastic. Twilight Creations sells the zombies seperately in bags of 100. You can add them to the game for bigger zombie hordes...or just play with them. It's like plastic army men for horror fans. Twilight Creations has gone on to produce expansion sets that add new flavor to the game. The expansions add new tiles, cards & playing pieces to the game. Each one has a theme such as military base, shopping mall (of course!), and zombie dogs. The games all come in small boxes which are ideal for storage. The contents actually fill the box, unlike most games which suffer from the potato chip bag factor (mostly air in an oversized package). The game currently runs for roughly $25 for the core rules set. Twilight Creations has also recently released their new version of Zombies!!!, titled Midevil. Midevil features a dark ages setting with skeletons and has a distinct Army of Darkness feel to it. Twilight Creations also has a number of other horror games they produce as well. You can surf their site and shop on-line here: [ www.twilightcreationsinc.com ] Anyone wanna get together somewhere this weekend? |
