Electro was directly influenced by funk, and kraftwerk/early electronic acts. Almost interchangable with early hip-hop. Think tr-808 programmed beats (nowadays people call it electrobreaks or something).. HUGE influence on both hip-hop and techno. More likely to have vocal samples (often vocoded, think robot voices) as opposed to full melodies and such, although you could rap/toast to it with ease. Music to breakdance to.
Electroclash... Hard for me to describe because I generally don't like it very much... More of an influence from 80s synthpop. Basically modern synthpop, very retro, more of a grunge influence mixed with heavy 80s leanings. Very little influence from anything funk or hip-hop. Pop melodies and such. Music to sniff cocaine to, and talk about how much you liked JEM. electro: Afrika Bambaataa - Planet rock electroclash: any ladytron, fisherspooner |

lets say...
Disco ---> new wave ---> synth pop ---> electroclash...generaly more related to house music...happened at the end of the 90's...i consider that all this movement of elctronic music was mostly influenced by ABBA... Electro ---> well, jammed between hiphop, funk and nu electro...started with Kraftwerk in early 70's...as far as im concerned, electro lasted for about two decades...you can also think of artists like herbie hancock back in the 80's...now, when i think electro...i think pure synth and robots...i dont consider that there is a major difference between electro and nu electro...always sounds reaaaaly synthetic... but still, i would say that all electronic music movements were influenced by Kraftwerk...or at least owe there existence to them...i guess thats the right way to say this...so i find it hard to fix electro in any line of influences...its more like the source... electroclash: ladytron, felix da house cat, miss kittin...also, watch for late major influences regarding artists like X-Dream...pretty nice results ^_^ electro: well...Kraftwerk ^_^; i dont know much about new electro stuff...im with the old genre... |

Scorpio by Grandmaster Flash is the king of the old school electro jams...
this electro-clash shit is a bunch of hype that Larry Tee invented because no one was paying attention to him... and now... well... we're all back to not-paying-attention to him. |
