Well you would think maybe some of those rags to riches people would go out and help their communitee more, instead of telling people to try and "get rich or die trying". But at the same time, people aren't educated to be responsible consumers either. So they go out and support these "get rich or die trying types". Society, in general, the corporate industries, promote the "money is god" mentality with the things they sponsor or make. Not all the responsiblity ought to lie on the shoulders of the artist. BUt I do agree and believe that artists should give back to the community globally. They are making money off of it. Commercial rap just reinforces all the bad things about capatalism, that you should buy buy buy and should be judged on how much material you own. People who act like that are turning their backs on the places they came from. Not everyone is like that, but many are. I don't know if you read in a past post of mine in this thread. I talked about something similar. I despised that very thing about rap when I was 15 or so. I felt like evryone was just being sucked into the ploy of materialism. And in a way, we were, the media was feeding it to us. We needed to belong. The material goods helped make people feel like they fit in. I'd hate to leave my post like this but I am tired. IT's unfinished. What about eminem, don't you think he should give back to the community? Don't you think he's preaching the "get money or die trying" mentality? I think he is. I have my reasons. Yeah, I agree that's like what I was saying a few posts ago. Cinderella soul: I was impressed when eminem decided to become political. It's good to see people using their influence for good purposes. The video he did with the guy from the gorilla news network was very good. |

IBesides, I don't think it is meaningless. It is only meaningless if you think it is. To me it is meaningful because in the world right now, politically speaking, we use that tactic.
