Turn on the TV. Go to CNN. The earthquake that hit Sri Lanka and Thailand (which reached as far as Africa) has claimed the lives of over 23 000 people. Now there are thousands of people in a life and death situation. There are corpses everywhere, and the threat of disease is inevitable. The wells people got their water from are now filled with ocean water. They desperately need water, medication and food. A spokesperson for the Red Cross said the easiest way to help is to donate money because they can buy the supplies in bulk and ship them straight there. There are tonnes of organizations collecting money so fore go that dinner or a movie and help these people. Its an unbelievably sad situation.
*****Donations to UNICEF Canada can be made online at [ www.unicef.ca ] or toll-free at 1-877-955-3111***** |

But hey... from the words of a fictional Richard Nixon (for anyone who has seen "where the buffalo roam") "Fuck the doomed" But still... This whole quake is really causing Chaos all over south east asia. Even people as far as India are dying from the typhoon caused by the quake. |

33,000 and climbing. I'll be very suprised if it stays below 40K dead. Some of that footage made my brain break (like the dead children floating out to sea).
I know most people would like to help, but I don't know how many people on this site have enough to personally donate to the cause, but if you can, do, and if you know someone who can (boss, parents, rich uncle) urge them to help. Its going to get worse before it gets better. |

Its true that its bad timing right after the holidays, but even 5$ will make a difference. Red Cross said they were getting 5 calls a minute yesterday which is 7200 calls a day and at 5$ a person thats AT LEAST 36 000$
We're truely helpless when it comes to natural disasters but we can definately help to pick up the pieces. |

thats like the entire population of Beaconsfield being wiped out in a minute... but worse!
fuck it, i'll donate 5$... maybe they can send a 5 piece over to sri lanka cause i'm sure someone over there needs a good joint. |

60 000 plus death now.
can you imagine working for Oxfam? You've been assigned to check up on a remote village. You get there, but the whole village has been swept away... In Sri Lanka, all the mines (in specific land area) left over from the civil war, have been washed up and now it's spread all over. edit; mines as in explosive land mines. |
