Horror as man killed by two sharks Thursday, December 16, 2004 Posted: 5:38 PM EST (2238 GMT) ADELAIDE, Australia (AP) -- Two great white sharks attacked and killed a surfer while his friends watched in horror Thursday off a popular beach in the southern Australian city of Adelaide, authorities said. The 18-year-old man had fallen from a surfboard being towed by a power boat when the sharks attacked off West Beach mid afternoon, South Australia state Sea Rescue Squadron spokesman Fraser Bell said. One shark tore the victim in half and the second shark took the remains, witnesses said. Two of the three 16-year-old boys who were in the tow boat witnessed the attack and received medical treatment for shock. Police and state emergency services said there had been no sign of the victim or the sharks since the mid afternoon attack despite extensive searches of the coast. Bell said the sharks, also known as white pointers, were between 5 to 6 meters meters (15-17 feet) long. They attacked about 250 meters (yards) from a crowded beach. "He fell off the surfboard and the shark appeared and took him," Bell told reporters. "It tore him apart ... apparently it tore him in half and the other shark came in and took the rest." A woman on the beach who was not named told Seven Network television the shark that led the attack "caught his left arm and took him around the boat and then another shark has come in and they just took him to pieces." The group of four friends, all from Adelaide, had been on the water for just 30 minutes before the attack. Asked if there were any chance the victim had survived, Bell replied, "None whatsoever". State police chief inspector David Lufty said beaches in the area would remain closed as the search continued for the killer sharks. The tragedy is the second shark fatality in Australian waters within a week. A 38-year-old man was killed by a shark while spearing fish on the Great Barrier Reef off northeast Australia on Saturday. |

They didn't say it was shark infested. Most beaches are protected by netting, especially popular beaches. |

how about being placed on a huge pice of ice and once your so cold that you can't feel anything have spikes put into you one at a time... |

But if you can't feel anything, the spikes won't cause you any excruciating pain!
Maybe if you got a pecil hammered into your face. Then having it slowly manuvered through your nasal cavity until it popped out your eye. ugh... |

I think being burned alive, very slowly, starting with your genitals, then your face, and having your wounds covered in iodine and salt, and being force to take drugs which would prevent you from passing out, would be far more painful. |

how about that pregnant mother who was cut alive for her unborn child.
[ www.cnn.com ] Authorities said Montgomery, who had a miscarriage earlier this year, confessed to strangling Stinnett -- who was eight-months pregnant with the couple's first child -- and cutting the baby from her womb |

i think the shark thing would be relatively painless. you'd be in so much shock and have so much adrenaline flowing through u that you probably wouldn't even feel much pain in the few seconds it would take for it to finish u off.
and besides, having ur cause of death being a shark victim is FAR more cooler than the usual ways of going out. |

Cnady's right. That death was probably worse for the witnesses.
Physiologically I think being dropped in a meat grinder feet-first would suck pretty bad, as would being dropped in a vat of boiling oil. I used to live in Aus before I moved to MTL and it's hard to avoid shark-infested waters because Aussie is surrounded 360 by the sharkiest waters on earth. This attack happened in the South, the other one in the North (great barrier reef), but the west coast north of Perth is the most notorious. There's a bay where falling in is almost certainly fatal. Still it would very much suck to rejoin the food chain that way. |
