Why can`t people just like what they like without having to catagorize it. Just wake up and dress how u feel that morning! |

Just wake up and dress how u feel that morning! do you really want an answer to that? very well... ask yourself if people dress how they feel that day, would they? why don't you see more business men in sweats? if students are so late for their classes, why don't they save time by not dressing and go in their pyjamas? it's your co worker funeral, but you feel especially bridal today, would you wear a wedding gown? you can wear what you want, what you like, like what you like but in a society you will be categorized and labeled. And no matter how hard you try, you will unknowingly lump people into a clique or another. Your friend is telling you about a guy she's seeing, and you query her what does he do for a living? already you set predetermined categories on that person. People who do like what they like don't categorize themselves, it is others who set it upon them. yes but why? People categorized other people because it helps them differentiate. it helps us to understand other human beings because we want to know and more importantly it helps us to be understood. Human society has many cultures and each of these cultures have a set of "values", "norms", and "artifacts". Values are what considered important in life. Norms is what that culture expects how one will behaved in a given situation. Artifacts are material manifestations of these norms and values. Within a culture there are many smaller ones and subcultures. Subculture distinct itself from the main one by different style and behaviours. It itself can become mainstream. The style have many aspect to it: language slang, manneurisms, etiquette, fashion, music, activities, etc... you belong to many categories and classes. Attributes you're born with, gender, age, etc. and things you choose to do. People tend to group themselves in a social gatherings. A person would rather enjoy the company of someone who shared the same interests and experiences. Think of it of social management. how do you chose your friends? do you really have the time to analyzed everyone of their merits and values to see if they meet your standand for friendship? Labeling, categorizing, predilections of a group of people of similar characteristics helps the process of streamlining social interactions. sociology, live with it |
