| so, i'm gonna be getting myself a new computer within a few months (preferably less months than more, just cause i want it)
and i'm slowly building a list of things i want and i
plan to spend a pretty penny on this thing but i'm hoping for not as much as i forsee (i'm maxing out at $5000 and thats damn steep for me)
this is going to be a mainly audio computer but i also do quite alot of photoshop work, and i can't deny the nerd inside some game rights
i want to know, what you guys would go with given a $3000 budget, and worse case scenario...$5000
(holy shit, thats so much money) |
|
Coolness: 201940
| 3000$ ?
You could get a crazy fast system for half that even |
|
Coolness: 201940
| shit if you're planning on spending a ton of money on an audio and photoshop computer maybe consider a Mac. |
|
Coolness: 142080
| well, mac is out of the question, even though its a smarter choice for the music n whatnot, but i'm also a game nerd, i shamefully admit it
but i also prefer PC, born and raised on em...
and, i don't really intend on spending $5000...but, i wouldn't be suprised if i reached close to $3000
basically what i really want to know
what is out there, that you'd think essential for a powerhouse comp being used for music? |
|
Coolness: 201940
| for the money you should get a video card with duel output and two monitors, having more than one monitor is useful for music programs which take up a lot of real estate... you also want a kick ass soundcard and a dvd burner for backups, cause music files are huge...
is your budget only for the comp? Cause you could always spill over some of the cash to other stuff like studio monitors if you dont have any |
|
Coolness: 201940
| and get at least a gig of ram |
|
Coolness: 142080
| more than likely getting more than a gig of ram as
as for monitors, i'm still unsure if i'm going to be droping for them now, i'm still not even sure how much money i'm gonna have total
any other hardware sudjestions???
how bout software??? |
|
Coolness: 2749630
| get a dual xeon 3.4ghz... 4gigs ram... |
|
Coolness: 300040
| dual monitors is a must |
|
Coolness: 106505
| 3 even!
Make sure your computer is fucking quiet too. |
|
Coolness: 142080
| i want something more like 4 - 4.5 ghz
if someone can hook me up with inexpensive screens then, i'd like having two |
|
Coolness: 201940
| you'll have to wait untill they release some then...
Right now I think the fastest chips available are 3.4ghz and the athlon speed equivelants (I think 2.4ghz athlon64 fx-53) |
|
Coolness: 142080
| i was pretty sure i saw 4ghz...? |
|
Coolness: 300040
| how about dual processor then? |
|
Coolness: 50500
| fuck that shit, ATARI 4 lyfe |
|
Coolness: 340380
| there wont be any 4Ghz CPUs for at least a year and a half.. they've hit a speedbump and are unable to produce faster chips right now.. |
|

| Yeah you're gonna want a proper studio amp, studio speakers and a pro sound card - something M-Audio would do the trick. Dual monitors are definately useful as well. Past that, I'm running just fine with my 1.8ghz, 512 megs of ram, and 160 gigs of hard drive space. It's more about your ability to use the computer than the computer's physical limits. |
|
Coolness: 340380
| Well, my PS work often gives my P4 3.0 a good workout..
i think i need more ram tho. 1gig isn't enough.. |
|
Coolness: 91035
| What are you doing? I'm used to working on 12x18 inch 300dpi files and I have no issues |
